Ruby Gauchman is a New York based artist and environmentalist with a BFA in Photography from SUNY Purchase. Ruby’s work begins as a lens based practice that finds form in three dimensional space. From family history to the identities impressed upon us, Ruby questions the elements that define our roles in life, often bouncing between the processing of a specific defining moment and the exploration of a larger, more universal experience. They find themselves elevating moments of the mundane into depictions of divinity. Their practice is born from experimentation and exploration, evolving as they moves through time and space. For Ruby, art making is an exercise of questioning and contextualizing — placing knowledge within a larger tapestry of information.
